Penn Collins

CEO/Managing Member

Penn Collins oversees the strategic strategic operations of the firm after having spent more than a decade managing the underwriting, financial, and legal processes, as well as overseeing the hotel brand and third-party operator development efforts. Penn has worked on the development teams of the W Hollywood Hotel and Residences, W Dallas Hotel and Residences, and overseen conceptual, pre-development, and underwriting efforts out of the firm’s Dallas office. Prior to his work at Gatehouse, Penn served as an estimator for Webcor Builders, setting budgets for hospitality-focused mixed-use projects in the southern California marketplace. He received an undergraduate degree in Finance from Southern Methodist University before earning a Masters Degree from The Hotel School at Cornell University with concentrations in Real Estate Finance and Restaurant Development.

Colin McDonald

Vice President, Development

Mr. McDonald is in charge of all underwriting and financial analysis and takes primary responsibility of the Gatehouse P3 Platform. He has been active in the hospitality industry for over 30 years beginning his career in consulting, first with Peat Marwick in Sydney and then with PKF in Toronto. He joined Four Seasons Hotels as Director of Development in 1992. In 2005 he moved to Dallas to take the position as Vice President Development with Accor North America and was responsible for brand activity in US and Canada covering Novotel and Sofitel brands. Colins holds an undergraduate degree from University of NSW in Applied Sciences and a graduate degree in Finance from the Australian School of Management.

Karen McGahen

CFO, Corporate Administration

Since 1999, Ms. McGahen has been responsible for all the Gatehouse Capital accounting and administrative duties, as well as human resources and risk management. Before joining Gatehouse, she was director of planning at a financial services company. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in business from St. Mary's University and University of Dallas, respectively.

Shannon Arnold

Construction & Design

Mr. Arnold is in charge of Construction and Project Management at Gatehouse. Shannon's 30 plus year career in construction has been almost equally balanced among hands on responsibility for project execution, project management and finally executive management of projects. Prior to joining Gatehouse form UEB in 2015, Shannon held senior management position with Skanska and Balfour Beatty and began his career with Clark Construction in 1983.

Mark Farruqui

Project Manager

Mr. Farruqui is responsible for managing the projects under design and construction. Mr. Farruqui has over 20 years of experience in construction, project management and development. As a developer and project manager, Mr. Farruqui completed several residential and hotel construction projects in New York. Before transitioning into real estate, Mr. Farruqui worked for the Con Edison Company, one of the largest utility companies in U.S. where he was involved in the engineering and construction of power generation and distribution facilities. Mr. Farruqui holds an Engineering Degree as well as MBA from PACE University, New York.

David-Elias Rachie

Development - Minneapolis

David-Elias Rachie brings over 15 years of hospitality experience to Gatehouse Capital,including extensive hospitality real estate financing, deal structuring and acquisition. Mr. Rachie has been awarded U.S. Patents on financial interments for use in hospitality financing.He has been responsible for many hospitality developments from the Caribbean to New York City that included a $290 million redevelopment project of an iconic Times Square hotel. He has extensive experience in negotiating then executing purchase and sale agreements, securing financing, and executing development plans. Using his hospitality experience, Mr. Rachie developed an innovation for the lodging industry that turns a liability, unsold rooms, into an asset by allowing hotels to use those unsold rooms instead of cash to pay commissions; and developed a process for mid-scale hotels to be developed in a more environmentally efficient manner.
